#STREAMWALKERS / #SPLETOHODCI
An Interactive Outdoor Performance of Voice and Movement
What would happen if we could step through a computer screen and discover what lies beyond it? #STREAMWALKERS, known in Slovenian as #SPLETOHODCI, invites audiences into a virtual world and raises questions about the relationship between people, society, artificial intelligence, the internet and technology – influences that are increasingly shaping our everyday lives. The performance explores our contemporary world and how we coexist with technology.
Movement, voice, light and stage design come together to create a vibrant space between nature and technology. The performers move like robots, then like stones in an abstract dance, and at other times like a swarm of mosquitoes. Their expressive movements are complemented by extraordinary vocal elements. The distinctive lighting and stage design further emphasise the contrast between nature and technology.
The performance weaves in poems by Srečko Kosovel, whose work remains remarkably relevant even a hundred years after his death.
The performance will be in Slovenian. Key passages will be translated into German and displayed on screen for German-speaking audience members.
The performance can also be watched live online using four cameras via a specially developed platform: anamonro.streams4u.eu.
The project was launched in 2023 under the title #STREAMWALKERS by the Slovenian theatre company Gledališče Ane Monro, in collaboration with the Catalan artist group Fadunito. The first phase took the form of an artistic intervention in public spaces, featuring two to four costumed characters wearing virtual reality headsets who interact with people in their real-life surroundings. The premiere took place on 11 September 2023 at the Fira Tàrrega festival in Spain.
As the project evolved, the daytime performance gradually transformed into a nocturnal exploration of the rise of artificial intelligence through voice and dance. Further inspiration came from a collaboration with the British art collective The Signdance Group. As the world of modern technology continues to change, #SPLETOHODCI continues to evolve alongside it.
Gledališče Ane Monro is an independent theatre organisation that has been exploring different forms of theatre and artistic expression in public spaces since 1992. Since 2020, it has also placed greater emphasis on community theatre and artistic work in urban areas and residential neighbourhoods with limited access to cultural activities. Alongside creating its own performances, the theatre trains new generations of street theatre artists, develops site-specific projects and organises festivals. It is particularly well known for the internationally established street theatre festival Ana Desetnica, which takes place every year in early July in more than twelve cities and towns across Slovenia.
