Open Art Salon and Portfolio Preparation: Drawing, Painting, Design, and More with Alexandra Ola Eibl

Course fee: €315.00 (plus a €30.00 flat-rate materials fee, which will be collected at the start of the course)

On Friday evenings, the hall is open to anyone who needs space and quiet for artistic work! For anyone who, for example, wants to attend the Ortwein School, pursue a degree in art, or enroll in a program with a focus on practical artistic training. Many of the participants from the last Salon were accepted into their programs. But young people who simply want to explore art are also welcome. Everything is practice and a process of growth—no matter how much you know or can do. Here, you’ll work with a wide variety of materials, tools, and techniques, whether drawing, painting, or sculpting—from life or from the imagination, based on models or themes. You can explore your own ideas here or get started right away with a topic of your choice. It can be anything: landscapes, people, animals, spatial representation, studies of nature and objects, and much more.
What makes this studio truly special is that—to avoid costly purchases up front—it provides high-quality materials for students to explore and experiment with, as well as art catalogs and examples. Every application has its own requirements. Here, you’ll receive support and guidance in putting together your own personalized portfolio (for all fields, such as architecture, art, design, and more) or simply in your personal artistic creative process.
It’s important that you take the lead. This isn’t school. It’s important that you help determine the direction of your portfolio yourselves. While I’ll offer suggestions and make recommendations—and I’ll also give you assignments tailored to your needs to help you reach your goals—you’re the ones who have to make the decisions and stay on track.
What to bring to your first appointment:

If there are any requirements for the portfolio, please be sure to let me know in writing in advance.
– 30 euros toward the cost of materials (paints, supplies, paper, etc.)
– Previous work (EVERYTHING! Sketches, school projects, your own/independent work, even where you
thinks that’s not so great—I mean, EVERYTHING!)
– your favorite supplies (pens, paper), so I know what you’re already familiar with and can help you feel comfortable

– anything that makes working more comfortable (e.g., comfortable work clothes and shoes)
Once we’ve discussed it, you can prepare for what will be needed for the upcoming sessions: We’ll talk in advance, for example, about which portfolio is right for you and which materials you’ll gradually need to purchase and bring yourself, such as drawing paper, paints, art supplies, and materials for sculptural projects.
We are particularly pleased that seven participants from the portfolio courses at the Retzhof have already been successfully admitted to the Ortweinschule. This success demonstrates just how valuable it can be to engage intensively with one’s own artistic development and to receive individualized guidance during the course.
